Basura: Do I suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome?

“Let’s Go Crazy” — Prince

I’ve been categorized by some Town Broadcast contributors as  having TDS – Trump Derangement Syndrome.  This cute little silliness is a clever mocking of the classification of mental illnesses and personality disorders found in the Diagnostic Manual of Mental Illnesses.

TDS is not original to Town Broadcast, but those of us who reject Fox News and Rush wouldn’t naturally be familiar with the phrase.  Merriam Webster provides a definition of derange as “to make insane.”  I don’t think I’m insane.  Dozens of times I visited psychiatric facilities during portions of my career, and was always gratified when they let me back out when I concluded my business.

Those suffering from the imagined malady of TDS become so enraged by Trump and his antics as to suffer derangement.  Hmm.  Does that describe me?

•  Is it deranged to become irate that Trump used the phony Trump Foundation charity for self-enrichment?  How low is that?

•  Is it deranged to take offense that the President of the United States of America lies at an unprecedented rate?

• Is it deranged to get worked up about children separated from their mothers?  Babies in cages?  Six children dying in custody?

• Is it deranged to wonder why our president is sucking up to dictators?  “Falling in love” with Kim Jong Un?  Kissing Putin’s ass?

• Is it deranged to be angry about his refusal to disclose his finances?  To put them into blind trust?  To blatantly flout the emoluments clause?

• Is it deranged to be infuriated at Trump’s failure to cooperate with the proper oversight investigation from a co-equal branch of government?

• Is it deranged to become offended that Trump fancies himself as a supporter of the military and veterans, despite counter indications, like his own shameful “bone spurs” scam?  Or his mistreatment of Sen. John McCain?

• Is it deranged to become angry that Trump defrauded vulnerable people with his Trump University hoax?

• It’s laughable that he cheats so much at golf (see Rick Reilly’s Commander in Cheat), but is it deranged to think it might be indicative of a deeply flawed character?

You won’t find Trump Derangement Syndrome in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  However, you will find a description of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  You could look it up.

You pose some interesting questions, from your past writings you do tend to be a bit on the edge. But your opinions do stimulate interesting debate .
In today’s society/world can anyone really define what normal is ??

Thanks, Harry. I don’t claim to be normal. I’m not a danger to myself or others, and I’m not so unable to care for myself so as to cause a dangerous condition of self endangerment – so I guess those psych facilities were right to to let me go following my visits. I recognize that things can change in a hurry (TBI, stroke) or with slow progression, (Alzheimer’s type dementia, Lewey Body disease) but for now I guess I’m OK. My antipathy toward The Donald seems well entrenched, but I think it’s not disabling as yet. Give it time; maybe it’s a progressive disorder (pardon the pun).
