As predicted by just about every area meteorologist, West Michigan was hit hard by high winds, rain, sleet and freezing rain Monday. The temperatures remained near, but below freezing and the combination of high wins and freezing rain translated into power outages for too many residents. Shown here is a photo taken by Renee Breese of Moline as she was traveling to her home, driving on Kalamazoo Avenue, showing the 28-degree reading, low visibility and hazardous road conditions. She reported that it probably was a better choice just to stay home, as was advised by public safety agencies.

I bet her friend took the photo for her while she was being a good driver.
