The Rabbit River Park and Trail soon may be graced by the presence of a bicycle rack at its entrance.
Local Boy Scout Martin Bethwick appeared before the City Council Monday evening to seek permission for his Eagle Scout project. Council agreed to give its blessing without hesitation.
Bethwick said he plans to have the rack built with treated wood, which council members were pleased to hear.
The scout was told he would need to have the rack secured in some way, perhaps concrete, because Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Antel cautioned, “The picnic table (in the park) lasted about 72 hours before it was found in the river.”
In other business at Monday night’s meeting, the council:
- Received three proposals for services after City Manager Josh Eggleston announced bids for master plan revision. On-line interviews likely will be conducted by a committee.
- Agreed to tentatively set the annual clean-up days for the first Monday and Tuesday in June immediately after the community-wide garage sales.
- Was told by Eggleston there is an urgent need for more crossing guards for schools, now that they are back in session full time. Schools being back to normal also has resulted in morning traffic delays on East and West Superior.
The City manager said perhaps a matter of pay for guards needs to dealt with and, “I’m sure on days with seven-degree temperatures we’re not going to get a lot of takers.”
- Approved committee appointments crafted by Eggleston and Mayor Tim Bala.
- Was told by City Clerk Lee Ann Clausen she has secured the services of four bands for the City Park concert series on four Friday nights in August.
- Praised the efforts of intern Katie Beemer for being host for two on-line webinars on parks and recreation possibilities. Councilman Rick Mathis noted there seems to be a lot of interest in a dog park.
