A Biggby drive-through coffee shop appears to be part of Dorr’s future.

Owner-operator Jasmine Myers presented plans for the business to the Dorr Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening and she said she hopes to have it up and running by July.

Myers said a manufactured building will be constructed on the north side of 142nd Avenue just west of the Lepink’s grocery store, right between the old greenhouse and the Chinese restaurant,

She said the facility will serve mainly drive-through customers, but walk-ups still can purchase coffee and there will be a picnic table outside.

“It’ll take about four weeks for the building get manufactured,” she told Plan Commission members.

Myers added that she tentatively plans to have it be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and it will have three to five customers per shift.

Commissioner Dan Beute commented, “This looks like a pretty well thought out plan.”

Her request for site plan approval was recommended on a 7-0 vote.

In other business Tuesday, the Planning Commission:

• Denied a request for text amendment to allow for conditional rezoning from Donjon Asphalt near the corner of Commerce and 142nd Avenue and suggested John Burke and engineer Matt Cole instead come back next month to ask for resigning from e-commercial to mixed used Planned Unit Development (PUD) zoning.

Beute explained that he doesn’t see the wisdom in adopting an ordinance to accommodate only one property, but colleague Brian Boot said, “I think this (conditional rezoning ordinance) would be useful to the township.”

• Agreed to recommend a rezoning request from Dan Sheler at 3932 18th St. from agricultural to rural estates, noting there wasn’t much other use for the site and it’s adjacent to another parcel zoned rural estates.
