Bob (Robert) Coffman is retiring after 32 years as volunteer firefighter with the Wayland Fire Department.

Monday Sept. 28, will be his last official fire meeting. He is 64 years old, so he has devoted half of his life as a firefighter. He did spend a decade or more instructing and leading the Allegan County Fire Academy; where new recruits are prepared for state testing. (He hopes to continue to serve in that way if needed.)

Coffman started his volunteer career under longtime Fire Chief Hugh DeWeerd. He is retiring under Chief Joe Miller, who is looking for capable citizens willing to train and serve.
