Two Martin teams were among the top 20 at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Iowa State University May 23-27.

The Middle School Division 2 team earned 17th place in the structure problem, “Animal House.” The problem challenges teams to test a balsa wood structure, and center their performance around an animal that also is their structure.

Team members include Zoie Tuinstra, Zach Bailey, Elise Blackburn; James Blackburn, Javier Guevara and Anica Miller. The team is coached by Hannah and Brandon Bailey, as well as Superintendent Dr. David and Ben Harnish.

In Division 3 “Triathlon Travels,” the High School team took 13th place out of at least 50 teams. The problem had teams create a large vehicle that must complete certain tasks. Martin’s team cleaned up well in their play as a replica cleaning machine circled the floor.

Martin High School’s team is comprised of Travis Stone, Carina Andrews, Sophia Shettler, Becca Bailey, Mallory Andrews and Austin Marsman. They are coached by Rosemary Andrews, along with David and Ben Harnish

“It was a successful season,” said David Harnish, “We were competitve and all the teams represented their school well.”
