Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ track teams split in double dual meets with O-K Gold Conference rivals Wyoming and South Christian.

The boys beat Wyoming 88-49, but lost 99.5 to 37.5 to South Christian. The girls topped the Wolves 103-24, but lost 81-55 to the Sailors.

Sophomore Devin Jakey was the only Wildcat to take first place against both opponents. He went 19-3 in the long jump.

Coach Marty Howard singled out performances by Robert Bausick, Corey Ainsworth and Aaric Roblyer. Bausick had his best ever shot put at 36-2, fourth best of the day. Ainsworth went 5-8 in the high jump, as did teammate Caleb Pletcher, going 2-3 in that event. Roblyer threw the discus a personal best 114-0.5 for third overall.

Hurdler Lee Anderson was second in the highs and third overall in the lows.

Jonathan Zuiderveen was second in the 3200-meter run. Caleb Wolf, Seth Sevenski-Popma and Anthony Muscarella went 2-3-4 in the 400, Wolf and Muscarella both turned in personal best times and Wolf was third in the 200 with a personal best 23.68 seconds.

Maggie Wjitney turned in another excellent performance in the 400, winning at 1:02.23, her personal best, and won the 800 in 2:34.49.

Freshman Rylee Cronkright beat all comers in the open 3200 and teammate Zoe Antel was third. Cronkright was third overall in the 1600 and ran a sub six-minute clocking.

Freshman Corrina Courser was runner-up to ace South Christian hurdler Mariel Bruxvoort, finishing the 300 intermediates with a personal best 49.84 seconds.

Whitney, Abigail Hasse, Hannah Rybiski and Courser beat everybody else in the 1600 relay in 4:40.49. Cronkright, Hasse, Antel and Maria Gabrielse won the 4×800 relay.

McKenna Dutkiewicz and Elizabeth Barnes went 1-2 in the discus. Brittney Ludwig won the high jump.

The Wayland Wildcats will participate in the O-K Gold Conference championship this Saturday at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
