Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ track teams went down to defeat at the hands of O-K Gold Conference rival East Grand Rapids, 86-51 and 85-43, respectively.

The Wildcat boys had a reasonably good outing in the sprints, hurdles and throws.

Junior Caleb Wolf was first in the 100-meter dash in 11.65 seconds and took the open 400 with a time of 52.8 seconds. Teammate Seth Sevenski-Popma won the 200 in 23.81 seconds.

Devin Jakey, Travis Cutler, Sevenski-Popma and Wolf hooked up to win the 800-meter relay in 1:37.17. Ashton Ordway, Jakey, Sevenski-Popma and Wolf captured first in the 1600 relay in 3:40.4.

Devin Westfahl and Trysten Sloan went 1-3 in 300-meter intermediate hurdles Sloan and Westfahl went 2-3 in the 110-meter highs.

Sophomore Elijah Veldman cleared 11-6 to take the pole vault.

Robert Bausick and Aaric Roblyer took second and third in the discus and Carter Morse, better known for his prowess in baseball, was runner-up in the high jump at 5-4. Jakey also was runner-up in the long jump at 18-9.

Sophomore Corrina Courser won both hurdling events.

Sophomore Corrina Courser was a double winner again, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 16.36 seconds, her personal best performance and in 51.27 seconds in the 300 intermediates. Courser also finished second in the 200-meter dash.

Breyala Pou also was a double winner, taking the throws with a 28-4 in the shot put and 67-9. Supporting performances by Jessica Hortman and Metzli Cruz enable the ‘Cats to sweep the discus.

Mackenzie Wolf, Vanessa Brown, Khylea Wells and Jazmyn Santos emerged victorious in the 400-meter relay in 54.88 seconds.

Both Wildcat teams now are 0-2 in dual meets and they will compete Friday afternoon in the Allegan Invitational.
