Calvin Christian avenges 2-point loss to Hopkins earlier this season

It was payback time for GraTyler Schulz Pass 2-3ndville Calvin Christian Friday evening.

The Squires, who suffered a rare hoops loss to Hopkins last month, 60-58, turned the tables in a 68-47 verdict over a team that came in having won eight of its last 10 ballgames. But it was not be for the Vikings this time.

Calvin Christian was holding a slim 17-15 lead after one quarter, but went on a 21-11 burst in the second period to take a 38-26 advantage at intermission. The visiting quintet was unable to reduce its deficit below double figures the rest of the way.

One huge key for the Squires was holding down high-scoring Hopkins senior guard Ryan Pierce to just eight points. Pierce in the last month and a half has been on an offensive tear, scoring more than 30 points in one victory and drilling nine three-point field goals in another.

Senior forward Tyler Schulz led the Vikings with 12 points and Jake Saap chipped in eight.

Austin Heeres had 14 points for Calvin Christian and Tony DeWitte counted a dozen.

The Vikings, now 8-8 overall, will play Tri-Unity Christian in a nonleague home contest Tuesday evening.
