A group of local citizens are planning a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church on Church Street across from the city park.
Originally, the service was planned for the corner of Main and Superior Streets in Wayland to honor Jason Morgan, 44, who died in a mobile home fire Tuesday morning, but severe cold weather has prompted the UMC to offer its quarters.
Dana Justic posted on Facebook, “As our town lost a wonderful man, a friend, a family member to some, I am wanting to do a candlelight vigil at 7. I will buy some candles, but feel free to bring some or just feel free to come down. Share stories, grieve, say a prayer. We are all here for him and his family, sorry for their loss. He surely will be missed. Wayland won’t be the same!” Shown here is the bench on which Morgan often sat on West Superior to greet people and motorists, which now has a candle burning, courtesy of Cheryl Smith-Castaneda.
