The Wayland boys’ cross country team finished eighth among 13 teams in Saturday’s Allegan Tiger Shark Invitational at the Allegan County Fairgounds.

The Wildcats accumulated 202 points, four away from seventh. Allegan won it with 29 points.

There was no team score reported for the girls’ competition, but coach Sue Brewer said six career best performances amounted to 4:19 shaved off the team’s collective personal record time.

Freshman Travis Koon turned in his personal best 5K performance at 18:27.27, good for 21st place. Ian Russell was right behind him in 23rd at 18:38.8, Devin Weaver was clocked at 19:40, Steven Mosher checked in at 32nd in 20:04.6 and Sam Garheden 21:22.4.

Freshman Olivia Barabas was fourth at 20:10.4, Hannah Smith 14th at 21:27.7 and Gracie Hasse 15th at 21:33.6. Naomi Oosterhouse crossed the finish line in 22:11.7 and Emma Thayer had her career best time, as did Ruby Sidebotham.
