Area public safety agencies were on alert Friday evening and a search party was organized to locate a missing 7-year-old girl, who eventually was found safe.
Wayland City Police Chief Mark Garnsey posted on Facebook, “For a couple hours we thought we had a lost 7-year-old who left the house, last seen on a doorbell camera walking away. Lots of law enforcement and civilians made up around 30 people in a search party in some wooded sections. Cops were leaving Christmas parties and headed in.
“One of the guys had his thermal imaging unit available and on the way. Police dogs were en route and the MSP Aviation Unit and helicopter had been notified.”
Finally a call came in, explaining that someone had taken the girl to a Christmas show at a church and she was on her way home.
“If you felt a breeze, that was our sigh of relief in getting a great Christmas present,” the chief added. “One of our kids is safe.
“Please, in the excitement of the holidays do not forget to communicate with each other. And don’t leave the communication up to little ones because as you could imagine it might not get passed on quite right.”
