The Wayland girls’ cross-country team came in sixth and the boys were seventh in the first O-K Gold Conference jamboree of the season Wednesday at the South Christian High School, Athletic Fields.

East Grand Rapids won both divisions, but only by one point over Grand Rapids Christian in the boys’ meet.

Freshman Olivia Barabas again was the top runner for the Lady Wildcats, finishing 22nd in 21:25.51. She was followed by sophomore Hannah Smith in 52nd, sophomore Serenna VanHouten 56th, freshman Emma Thayer 92nd and sophomore Sydney Hasse 110th.

Freshman Travis Koon again paced the Wayland boys, taking 52nd in 20:06,72. Following were teammates Ian Russell 57th, Steven Mosher 71st, freshman Jared Jandernoa 92nd and freshman Devin Weaver 115th.

Individual medalists were Evan Bishop of East Grand Rapids, 16:10.06, and Madelyn Frens of Grand Rapids Christian, 18: 38.18.

Both Wayland squads will be the Cedar Springs Invitational Saturday.
