The Wayland girls’ cross-country team came in sixth and the boys were seventh in the first O-K Gold Conference jamboree of the season Wednesday at the South Christian High School, Athletic Fields.

East Grand Rapids won both divisions, but only by one point over Grand Rapids Christian in the boys’ meet.

Freshman Olivia Barabas again was the top runner for the Lady Wildcats, finishing 22^nd in 21:25.51. She was followed by sophomore Hannah Smith in 52^nd, sophomore Serenna VanHouten 56^th, freshman Emma Thayer 92^nd and sophomore Sydney Hasse 110^th.

Freshman Travis Koon again paced the Wayland boys, taking 52^nd in 20:06,72. Following were teammates Ian Russell 57^th, Steven Mosher 71^st, freshman Jared Jandernoa 92^nd and freshman Devin Weaver 115^th.

Individual medalists were Evan Bishop of East Grand Rapids, 16:10.06, and Madelyn Frens of Grand Rapids Christian, 18: 38.18.

Both Wayland squads will be the Cedar Springs Invitational Saturday.
