Sophomore Corrina Courser won both hurdling events.

Both the Wayland High School track teams got off to a rough season start Wednesday in dual meet losses to O-K Gold Conference rival Grand Rapids Christian.

The boys lost 93-44 and the girls were on the short end of a 104-29 count.

Highlights for the Wildcat boys were:

Junior Caleb Wolf won the 400-meter run in 53.61 seconds and was second in the 200-meter dash at 23.87 seconds.

Trysten Sloan and Devin Westfahl went 1-2 in the 110-meter high hurdles and Westfahl was third in 300 hurdles.

The 400-meter relay team of Travis Cutler, Westfahl, Elijah Veldman and Sloan won with a time of 47.37 seconds. The 800 relay team won with Devin Jakey, Wolf, Seth Sevenski-Popma and Ashton Ordway in 1:36.4. Winning the 1600 relay were Ordway, Jakey, Sevenski-Popma and Wolf in 3:48.04.

Devin Jakey was first in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.

Robert Bausick was runner-up in the shot put at 40-05.25.

For the girls, sophomore Corrina Courser came through with a first in the 200-meter dash in 28.17 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second faster than her nearest rival. She also crossed line first in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.63 seconds and in the 300 hurdles in 50.95.

Maggie Whitney, who was fourth in the state in the 800 last year, was second Wednesday with a time of 2:47.11.

Freshman Madelyn Probst grabbed the runner-up slot in the high jump at 4-6.
