Seven Wildcats named to all-conference softball team

O-K Gold Conference champion Wayland landed seven of its players on the all-league team. The Wildcats, who went undefeated in 14 games in league play, captured their 29th O-K Gold championship, their 16th in the last 17 years. Martin earns district softball tourney championship

The Martin softball team claimed the Division 4 district championship Saturday, beating Gobles in the finals, 7-5. The Lady Clippers defeated Climax-Scotts 12-1 in the tourney semifinals earlier in the day. Martin will play Mendon at Mendon at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the regional semifinals.

Wildcats’ Adam Huff is state champion in discus

Wayland junior thrower Adam Huff captured the Division 2 state championship in the discus Saturday at Hamilton High School by hurling the object 172-0. Huff owns the school record in the discus and the shot. He didn’t match his school record of 180-04, but took all the marbles nonetheless. Huff last year was state runner-up

Allegan forfeits softball district opener to Wayland

For undisclosed reasons, Allegan has decided to forfeit Saturday morning’s district tournament softball game to Wayland. The Wildcats were scheduled to take on the Tigers at 10 a.m. Saturday. Hopkins softball team earns all-state academic honors

The Hopkins High School varsity softball team has earned earning team academic all-state honors. Vikings Jessi Spray, Peyton Roxbury, and Kate Steffes also earned individual academic all-state honors. Hopkins will play at noon Saturday at its home field against Middleville Thornapple Kellogg in the opeing round of the Division 2 district tournament.
