The Wayland junior varsity girls’ basketball team got off to a fast start Tuesday night and then had to hang on to post a 42-35 victory over Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills. The victory was the Wildcats’ sixth in a row and it lifted their overall season record to 8-2. Wayland jumped out to a 13-7

Hopkins boys’ hoops team proves 0-5 start wasn’t the real deal

Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball coach Darrin Smith just had to know he had a better basketball team than its 0-5 record indicated last month. And he was right. Wildcat point guards both have 1,000 career point totals

Senior point guards Dilon Aten and Presley Hudson both have scored 1,000 points during their four-year careers at Wayland High School. Aten notched his 1,000th point during the Wildcats’ victory over Caledonia Dec. 16. Hudson’s came last Friday night against Middleville Thornapple Kellogg. Hopkins’ boys’ basketball team Monday evening claimed its third straight triumph after that 0-5 start to the season, and in the process now owns a 2-0 record in the latest O-K Silver Conference standings.
