Catholic Central ends Wildcats’ 3-game winning streak, 6-1

Grand Rapids Catholic Central halted tBoys-Soccerhe Wayland boys’ varsity soccer team’s three-gamer winning streak Thursday with a 6-1 decision in O-K Gold Conference play.

The Wildcats started things well, getting on the scoreboard first when Mitchell Dykstra found a streaking Tristen Ortiz, who rounded the keeper and found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season. The rest of the half saw the boys compete and defend until Catholic Central was able to break through with 3 minutes remaining and tie the game going into halftime.

But the wheels came off in the second half, as the visiting Cougars scored five times to pull away.

Four of the five goals were tallied in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Jake Larsen faced 20 shots, making 14 saves in the loss.

The Wildcats are back on the road next Tuesday when they visit Hastings for their third consecutive conference match.
