Perhaps one huge reason the Wayland High School golf team has been ranked as high as No. 5 among Division 2 teams in the state is that the Wildcats finished in fifth place April 28 at the star-studded Bedford Valley Invitational in Battle Creek.

Wayland combined efforts for a 322 score among the 25 teams, including some of the most highly regarded in all of Michigan. Forest Hills Northern, ranked No. 1, won the competition with a score of 310 for the 18 holes of play.

Junior Rory Myers finished seventh in individual competition with a 76. Tyler Omness fired an 80, Carson Sevingy an 81 and Mitch Salisbury an 85.

On Friday April 27, Wayland successfully defended its Allegan County tournament title. Tournament medalist Rory Myers fired a 72 for 18 holes. Tyler Omness followed with 81, Carson Sevigny 85, and Mitch Salisbury 86.
