Celebration of life is April 2 for driver in truck crash

Michael Wayne Moore, 46, of Allegan, died in a truck crash in Hopkins Township Friday, March 4.

He was born Oct. 19, 1975, in Grand Rapids, to Wayne and Kay Moore (Shafer). Mike grew up in Moline and graduated from Wayland Union High School with the class of 1994.

From a very young age Mike tried his hand in everything from farming, being a surgical tech and one of his proudest accomplishments was being a third generation firefighter for Leighton Township. His wood working skills were second to none.

Mike had owned his own concrete and lawn care businesses and eventually he found being a heavy machine operator was his passion. If he wasn’t raising cows or rabbits, he could be found running his beagles or coon dogs. These last few years, Michael had really gotten back into trap shooting and just returned from Arizona where he was able to shoot the Southern Grand.

Survivors include his son, Wyatt Moore; father, Wayne Moore; brother, Steven (Karie) Moore; niece, Makayla Moore; aunts and uncles, Renee (Tony) Baareman, Karen (Jerry) Hendrick, Don Shafer, Ron (Judy) Shafer, and Doug (Chris) Shafer, and many cousins and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Kay; grandparents, Jay and Louise Moore and Don and Wanda Shafer.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, with a short memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Dorr Moose Lodge, 4204 20th St., with a light lunch being served.
