Of two local public officials who have been reported to be seeking similar jobs elsewhere, one is one of two candidates left standing and the other did not make the final cut after interviews.
Wayland City Police Chief Steven Harper now is one of two remaining candidates for police chief at the City of Zeeland, according the Allegan County News & Gazette. The original list of six was whittled down to two, Harper and Eaton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tim Jungel. One will succeed the retired Bill Olney.
Harper was hired by the city in early 2013 after he retired as commander of the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police.
Meanwhile, Hopkins Public Schools Superintendent Gary Wood did not make the final cut, from six to three, for the superintendency of Hudsonville Public Schools, according to a report this week from MLive.com.
Wood has been school chief at Hopkins since 2014.
