Christian Neighbors embezzlement case may be resolved

A 49-year-old Wayland man will appear in court in Allegan Monday to face charges of embezzlement.

Dale Whittredge, a 1986 graduate of Wayland High School, is expected to be offered a plea agreement in connection with charges he embezzled more than $20,000 during his tenure as treasurer of Wayland Christian Neighbors treasurer for between six and eight years. Whittredge was asked to resign his post and left in May 2016, according to Past President Bill Howe.

Howe, who since has been succeeded as president by Roxie Muczynski, said the offer Whittredge is expected to get is repaying the amount he was alleged to have taken, plus legal fees. If he meets the conditions, the charge will be embezzlement of over $1,000.

Christian Neighbors is a food pantry and service for poor and underprivileged people in Wayland, supported by local churches.

What a terrible thing in such a beautiful community. It is a shame that people like Dale are allowed to procreate. His offspring is ill-mannered as well.
