Christina Ortiz is the new owner of Pet Klips on West Superior Street in Wayland, succeeding the retiring Tonda Genther.

“She is one of my best friends and I want everyone to trust that I could not have asked for a better fit too continue this place that I have called home for almost 20 years,” Genther said. “I am 100 percent confident with her ability to take the lead and keep Pet Klips and the team going, growing and thriving.”

Christina has extensive experience in dogs both personally and professionally and is a responsible and ethical breeder of Yorkshire terriers for about 20 years. She and her daughters have produced dogs for show and companions, are accomplished in the show ring and have finished many champions. They have received many awards. In 2021 they ranked in the AKC top ten for owner handler and participated in the National dog show in Orlando, Fla.I have found myself in a place I have never been before. Genther reflected on her 20 years running her business.

“Emotionally it is such a bittersweet place to be, the feeling of letting go of something you love and have worked your heart and soul for. Then the excitement of beginning yet a new last journey and new place in life.”

Genther’s professional dream dates back to the year 2002, when she enrolled in the Paragon program. A year afterward she started as a student and then graduated from the grooming program. She then did advanced training and worked toward a certified master groomer title.

“After that I became an instructor at the school, which I must say, was my cup of tea,” she said. “I found so much joy in teaching others and it has carried through today. I find watching someone grow their dreams is the best accomplishment for me.”

Genther worked at a few grooming salons learning all I could and for awhile was instructing the night shift classes at Paragon.

Pet Klips was born in 2006, with the help and complete support from husband Brian.

“It wasn’t all just about money and paying the bills, It has been so much more than that,” Genther said.

“I hope so much that our little shop in Wayland will always be more than just a business. We truly care about what we are doing and all the relationships that have developed from it.

“I am certain all our clients will see that it may have changed hands, but all the rest is the same and in some ways fresh and better.”
