Wayland Fire Chief Joe Miller Monday night acknowledged he came to the City Council meeting with hat in hand. But the response was “ask and you shall receive.”
Miller asked the council for approval to purchase a new truck for the department and wound up also asking for permission to buy a new grass rig.
Council approved his recommendation to buy a new Ram truck with hemi for $36,700 from Wayland Chrysler, the lowest bidder. It also gave its blessing to buying a new grass rig that Miller didn’t believe was necessary until the current vehicle suffered a blown engine.
The new grass rig will cost the city $88,876. Miller said the old unit will be put up for bidding.
“We hope to have it (the new grass rig) by March, just in time for fire season,” the chief said.
