The City of Wayland’s Department of Public Works got most of the attention Monday night at the City Council meeting.
Among several announcements, Streets Supervisor Coleman Lutz reported that the city was awarded $30,000 in damages in connection with the South Main Street project in 2023.
Meanwhile, the council approved the installation of a hanging cantilever shade next to the splash pad in the City Park and replacing the poured in place in the park for safety reasons.
Furthermore, the city approved installation of electric door openers, two in the front and another in the back of City Hall and noted that about $6,000 in costs will be covered by a grant.
Lastly, not not leastly, the council was told by Lutz there was a water main break Monday during the deep freeze in temperatures, but the situation was handled within a couple of hours.
In other business, the council:
- Learned that the City Police Department handled almost 3,600 calls in the year 2024, the most in the city’s history. Mayor Jennifer Antel added that the fire department experienced the same record development in 2024.
- Approved the final payment for the water tower renovation project.
