The Wayland City Council vcity-of-wayland-logooted to have its annual strategic planning session at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at council chambers.

Council members gather for a special meeting at about this time every year to discuss matters of local government and policies with the city manager, department heads and the mayor.

It was noted that the session will be the morning after the Main Street appreciation dinner Friday night, Feb. 3, just as it was last year. With that in mid they collectively decided to postpone the city’s annual dinner until sometime in March.

In other matters at brief and routine meeting Monday evening, the council:

• Approved the appointment of Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Antel to a four-year seat on the Downtown Development Authority.

• Was told by City Manager Tim McLean that the Policy Committee, consisting of himself, council members Antel, John Sloan and Tracy Bivins, and Clerk Michelle Herman continues to work on proposed changes to the employees’ handbook

“McLean said the adjustments, “eliminate some of the things that are obsolete, bringing our policies into the 21st century.”

• Received word that the city water department has received a Water Fluoridation Quality Award, which it has received every since 2002.
