The Wayland City Council Monday night adopted a total budget of $6,374,482 for fiscal year 2015-16, beginning July 1.
The general fund budget anticipates revenue and expenditures of $2,921,031 with a fund balance, or “rainy day fund” of $1,302,789.
City Manager Mike Selden acknowledged the budget expenses are up by about $700,000 over last year because of several road projects this summer and fall. There are plans for paving the roads around the City Park after the renovations, including a water slide, are complete. Also on the docket are the road at Galazy Estates off East Superior, 133rd Avenue at the southern city limits from Main Street east to Wildcat Drive, and East Sycamore Street.
There was no public comment during the truth-in-taxation hearing, nor during the hearing on the proposed budget.
The millage rate for the city has been established at 16.673 mills.
City Treasurer Cherie Parrish indicated that Wayland citizens will see an increase in their total tax bills because of a bump in the school district’s debt retirement, from 3.75 to 4.2 mills.
The vote to adopt the budget was 5-0, with council members Lisa Banas and John Sloan absent.
