City of Wayland buys used office furniture from upstairs neighbor

The Wayland City Council MSOAPWOSBonday night agreed to a staff request to buy some used office furniture from SOAP Transcription Services.

SOAP operates its business upstairs in the City Hall building, renting it from the city for about $1,800 a month. SOAP proposed selling it used office materials for the cost of one month’s rent.

SOAP is buying all-new equipment and wants to get rid of its older stuff.

City Manager Tim McLean said the equipment, which includes cabinets, a phone system, chairs and cubicles, is better than what city employees now use, so it would be welcome and the price is fair.

“I think it’s worth $1,800  in terms of what we’d have to pay to buy new equipment,” McLean said.
