The City of Wayland seems to be running short of people serving on public boards and commissions and the City Council will not expand with the Nov. 6 general election.
There will be only three candidates for three open positions in the Nov. 6 Wayland City Council election. Joe Kramer was appointed to the seat left vacant in June with the resignation of Tracy Bivins. He, Abe Garcia and Tim Rose plan to run for three seats in the Nov. 6 election, but incumbent John Sloan has decided to step down.
Garcia, because it is likely he will be elected to a council seat, has resigned his post on the Planning Commission, which opens up one position there needing appointment by Mayor Tim Bala. Now comes the news that there will be two openings on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Chairman Joe Hamilton is moving out of the city and Max Barnes has decided to retire. So Bala has yet two more posts to fill before the end of the year.
The situation would have been made even more interesting if Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Antel would have been elected state representative from the 72nd District, thereby creating another opening by Jan. 1, 2019.
Anyone interested in serving on the Planning Commission or ZBA may contact City Clerk Michelle Herman at (269) 792-2265.
