ACHTUNG: This is not a “fair and balanced” article. It is an editorial by the editor.

Dan Weber2

It is entirely possible that Monday night’s article, “Dan Weber’s work schedule wrecks havoc on Dorr meeting dates,” was misleading.

Though that was not the intention, it may have led readers to believe incorrectly that Weber, a township trustee, single-handedly is forcing the Dorr Township Board to change its meeting dates as many as three times in the last year. It actually appears Mr. Weber has been caught in a series of unfortunate circumstances.

The Dorr Township Board customarily in the past met on the third Thursday of every month. However, board members decided a little more than a year ago to switch to the last Monday of the month in order to better handle paying the bills.

Mr. Weber, for his first and only time, in August 2015 asked to have the meetings moved to Tuesday nights because his new job forced him to work Monday nights.

However, Tuesdays were moved back to Mondays not long ago and it was mentioned that Mr. Weber would be able to attend that night after all. He did not make the request. In fact, it was the result of Supervisor Jeff Miling and Clerk Brian Boot asking for Mondays because they don’t come into the office on Tuesdays.

Now comes this week the news that the board, for the third time, may change the dates yet again to the last Thursday of the month. Miling mentioned at Monday night’s meeting that Thursday was the only night that would work now for Weber, who was absent because of his job.

The combination of all these factors leads an observer such as I to believe that Mr. Weber’s work schedule indeed is causing an unusual situation in which board meeting dates have been changed three times since the old days of the third Thursday of the month.

Only once did Mr. Weber ask the board to change its meeting dates, and it agreed. The other date changes seem coincidental. So the article published Monday could have been misleading.
