Coloma pinned a 35-0 defeat on Martin Friday to drop its overall season record to 2-2.
The Clippers knew, heading into the showdown, that it would be a tough battle.
Junior QB Zach Goodline ran for a touchdown early in the first quarter to begin a scoring streak for Coloma.
Martin’s Rayne Torres carried the ball to Coloma’s 34-yard line and all signs pointed to a possible touchdown in answer, but it never came for Martin, despite many opportunities to score.
Carter Hilton held together the defense with multiple tackles and sacks. The Comets at times appeared to be in dire straits, but Martin’s defensive efforts ultimately failed.
Goodline ended up scoring four touchdowns and Derek Plitt, a senior, kicked in five extra point attempts. Caleb Ellis (23) also scored for the Comets.
Martin carries a 2-2 record heading into a divisional face-off with rival Fennville next week. Fennville is in the hunt for their first win of the season, while Martin is looking to put on a show for their home crowd on Parent’s Night.
Coloma now is 3-1, with its only loss coming at the hands of Saugatuck, 34-27.
