The Martin baseball team posted its first victories in the season opener over Potter’s House Monday for the start of another “homeless” campaign.

The Clippers won the first five-inning game on a 15-10 notice and then handed the Pumas a 7-0 bruiser in game two.

Notably, all of the Clippers’ games and practices again will be on the road this season as grass grows, and the bond work continues. Senior Night will be played on May 23 at the Kalamazoo Growlers stadium.

Players are welcoming a new head coach, Kyle Wartella, a 2000 graduate of Wayland High School. He has many years of experience coaching baseball across West Michigan, including the freshman squad at Gull Lake High School. Wartella currently lives in Kalamazoo with his wife Kristen, children Bryce, Ruby, Sadie, Drake and Cade.

Martin looks to keep a positive record in battling Saranac on Tuesday, weather permitting.
