michael-foleyWayland boys’ varsity bowling coach Sherry Miklusicak made no secret of her disappointment with her team’s 15-15 tie with Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Monday.

The Wildcats’ tie left them with a 2-3-1 overall season record. Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats cruised to 30-0 shutout over TK to improve to 4-1-1.

“It appeared we would come away with a win this evening, but that wouldn’t be the case,” the coach said of the boys’ match. “We dominated our first Baker game 185-135. Surely a 50-point lead would give us the extra two (points) for total… unless the unspeakable happened and it did!”

She was particularly disturbed by open frames in nine of the 10 frames in the second Baker.

“Eight of the opens were chops, so that means at least we were close to getting our spares,” she noted.

The Wayland boys lost their second Baker game by more than 50 pins and were now down 6 points to 4 points going into match play.

“Well thankfully that shook us up and we came back in great fashion in individual game one, taking all but one match point.”

High game was turned in by Michael Foley with a 190, yet his was the point that was lost because his opponent rolled a 199.

But the ‘Cats now were ahead 12 points to 7.

The second set of individual games started nicely as the Wildcats had the lead until disastrous ninth and 10th frames.

“We could only muster one point this game,” Miklusicak said. “Ironically, it was Michael Foley’s point that saved us from a loss and tied the match, as we had enough points from game one to carry the total for our two-game series.”
