Former Wayland High School girls’ varsity bowling coach Bill Holbrook has guided the Midland (Neb.) University Warriors girls’ and boys’ bowling teams competed in the Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional Qualifier this weekend (a USBC Collegiate event, not NCAA).

The top four teams in each division (Men and Women) from each of four Sectionals move on to the ITC in Baton Rouge, La., in April.

As an NAIA team, Midland University is not invited to compete in NCAA events, however USBC collegiate events are open to any college bowling program that registers through USBC Collegiate whether they are affiliated with the NAIA, NCAA, or even a club team, like Michigan State University.

The boys finished second in the regionals and the first fourth this weekend to qualify. Holbrook coached the Lady Wildcats for several years until he left in December to become the head varsity coach for Midland. He mother and father, Bill and Sandy (Kotrba) Holbrook, both are 1964 Wayland High School graduates. His assistant coach is 2002 WHS alum Chris Uffman, now a graduate assistant who earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and is now working on his master’s degree at Midland University.
