Former Hopkins High School football and basketball standout Colin Weber has announced he will use the transfer portal to play his final college football season for Rutgers.
Weber, who led University of North Carolina-Charlotte in pass catches in 2023 as a sophomore, has decided to transfer to play his senior season with the Scarlet Knights, who are members of the Big 10 Conference.
Weber, a tight end who stands at 6-4 and 255 pounds, decided to make the change after learning UNC-Charlotte fired head coach Biff Poggi. Ranked as the nation’s No. 7 tight end in the transfer portal , he chose chose Rutgers over offers from Connecticut, James Madison and Miami (Ohio). He was third this past fall in total pass receptions with 21, covering 213 yards.
However, he has yet to score a collegiate touchdown.
Rutgers has completed its regular season with a 7-5 record and will play Kansas State in the Rate Bowl Thursday.
At Rutgers, Weber joins a program coming off a 7-5 regular season heading into Thursday’s matchup with Kansas State in the Rate Bowl.
He is a 2021 graduate of Hopkins High School. His brother, Drew, played basketball at Olivet College and his sister, Mady, is a member of the Alma College basketball squad.
