United Church of Wayland is reporting a massive increase in people stopping in to use the Community Clothes Closet in the days leading up to Christmas.
A spokesperson for the church said, “We are just delighted with the number of people who visited our Clothes Closet last Thursday! We estimate we had 40 or more people shop for completely free clothing!”
Also helping to increase community awareness of the free clothing program is the Wayland High School National Honor Society’s annual winter coat drive that includes donations to the Clothes Closet.
Due to its increase in popularity, United Church of Wayland has decided to open it every Thursday. The closet will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday.
“Because of our wonderful and generous donors, we have plenty of cold weather clothing for anyone who can use it,” the spokesperson said. “Please spread the word, and please come again, or for the first time! And we are so grateful to those who donate to our cause.”
Donations can be dropped off weekdays at the church, located 411 E Superior St., next to Steeby Elementary. Donations can be dropped off from 9to 5, but please try to avoid coming between noon and 2 p.m. when the children in Montessori school are resting.
