The Wayland City Council Monday night followed through on former Mayor Burrell Stein’s suggestion late last year that the local Officers’ Compensation Commission be resurrected.
Stein told council members last fall that the commission, which is charged with recommending raises and salary levels for local officials, hadn’t me since 2014 and since then somehow had been brushed aside into the dust bin. He urged council to bring it back and appoint a new five-member panel.
For his efforts, Stein was approved as a commissioner, along with Nan Olney former Mayor Tim Bala, Phyllis Marchesotti and Amy Clement.
The council also approved the reappointments of Andrew Shelest and Mark Lyons to the Planning Commission.
In other business Monday night, the council:
- Approved a proposal to remove the huge Christmas tree in the downtown city park next McDuff’s and have it replaced by a smaller and more manageable tree.
- Agreed to call off and reschedule the Monday, April 3, meeting because spring break will cause a lack of quorum.
- Approved the recommendation of the Planning Commission to give its blessing to a special use permit for Recco Products to expand its facility just off South Main Street.
