Conley wins 2, Martin girls split tri-meet

The Martin girls’ track team Wednesday split with two opponents in a tri-meet with Kalamazoo Christian and Galesburg-Augusta.

The Lady Clippers. edged Kalamazoo Christian 70-66 and lost by a single points to Galesburg-Augusta, 66-65. The Clipper boys lost twice, 88-47 to K-Christian and 76-42 to Galesburg.

Sophomore ace distance runner Veyda Conley had a big day, winning both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. She checked in ahead of her nearest competitor by nearly 40 second and was three minutes faster than the runner-up in the 3200.

Another victory was scored by the Martin foursome in the 1600—meter relay with Emily King, Kayden Jager, Sarah Schipper and Torryn Harris.

Yet another was scored by the 320—meter relay quartet of Kayden Jager, Allison Rogers, Emily King and Conley, which won by almost a full minute.

Unfortunately, none of the Clippers guys were able to come up with first-place performances. Senior distance runner Alex Morin took second place in the 800- and 1600-meter runs.
