The death toll from the Coronavirus in Allegan County has climbed by four more in the past two weeks, reaching a total of 142 since the pandemic began 14 months ago.
However, the disease statistics show a different trend, as the rate of daily new cases over the past seven days has dropped below 20, down from 36.7 earlier this month and a significant decrease from the high of 75.6 reported April 20 by the Allegan County Health Department. Health officials have noted that death numbers lag behind all other data.
The two-week snapshot on the Health Department’s web site, shows five deaths, 524 new cases and a 12.2 percent positivity rate on tests, down from 16.6 percent two weeks ago. There have been 242 hospitalizations, 10,982 cases and 9,885 recovered since the pandemic began in March 2020.
