Human Services

The Allegan County Human Services Building, 3255 122nd Ave., Allegan, was closed Friday for mechanical repairs, but will reopen Monday, Jan. 8.

Also closed for the remainder of the day were the Health Department, Parks and Recreation and Senior and Veterans Services. They also will reopen for normal business hours on Monday

The Allegan location for Michigan Works! office and the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Allegan location occupy space in the Allegan County Human Services Building.  These agencies are providing notification regarding their services and are also impacted by the closure.

Official said the building’s alarm system at about 10 a.m. Friday notified occupants of possible elevated carbon monoxide levels.

A spokesperson said, “”The building was evacuated and tested. Fire service personnel responded quickly on-site and confirmed levels were elevated in some areas. A ventilation fan was found to be inoperable. No actual gas leaks were found. Temporary ventilation equipment was put in place.

“As a precaution, the building has been closed to allow the necessary repairs to be made. No injuries occurred and no symptoms have been reported. Mechanical repairs are expected to be completed Friday or through the weekend if necessary…”
