The COVID-19 health crisis has caused the cancellation of the annual Kelloggsville Rocket Invitational on Monday, Aug. 24, affecting Wayland’s cross-country teams.

Wildcat boys’ cross-country coach Ray Antel has announced that instead there will be a tri-meet with Hopkins and Kelloggsville fielding competing teams.

Antel posted on Facebook, “Full uniforms and full-on fun! Be flexible. Anything could change.”

The Coronavirus has changed cross-country season scheduling, leading to more dual meets and tri-meets instead of invitationals because of a limit of 70 runners gathering in one place at one time.

Antel added that if the annual Wildcat Invitational is canceled Wednesday, Aug. 26, “We’ll just host GRTC (Grand Rapids Track Club) Peregrines and Thornapple-Kellogg in a tri-meet at home.”

It also was reported that it’s likely the annual Coach B Gun Lake Invitational next also will be called off.
