Though the Coronavirus infection rate in Michigan continues to go down, below 5 percent. the state has eclipsed 14,000 deaths, meanwhile approaching 100 in Allegan County.

The Allegan County Health Department Thursday reported that 96 people in the county have died as a result of the virus.

The total number of cases is now at 6,670, with 5,475 reported as recovered and 166 hospitalized.

The Health Department reported 56 deaths just before Christmas. The toll was just six at the start of September.

Meanwhile, in an update on Covid-19 vaccinations, the Health Department said Thursday it had enough vaccine supply to host three vaccine clinics for those 65 years of age and older, health care workers, first responders, police officers, jail and prison staff, pre-K through 12 teachers and workers in child care centers and protective services in the week of Jan. 10-16.

The ACHD indicated a total of 1,577 Allegan County residents were administered vaccine during that week. Also, more than 8,100 individuals living or working in Allegan County over the age of 65 have signed up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the Census Bureau in 2019, there were 118,081 Allegan county residents.

Those who live or work in Allegan County and are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine should sign up through the “I Want the COVID-19 Vaccine” form on www.allegancounty.org/covid. Once they are signed up, they will receive an e-mail from ACHD about when they can schedule an appointment.

An ACHD spokesperson said, “Due to the overwhelming response and limited vaccine availability, eligible individuals may not receive an email for three to four weeks. If individuals need confirmation that they are on the registry, please e-mail covidvaccine@allegancounty.org.
