Crash causes traffic backup on U.S.-131 freeway north of Dorr

A traffic crash on the the U.S.-131 freeway just north of Dorr caused a fuel spill and traffic backup because farm animals were involved.

Authorities said a semi truck-trailer and other vehicles near 92nd Street, just south of the 100th Street exit in Kent County. Making matters worse, that area is under construction, causing first responders to have to gain access  though the 100th Street bypass.

Southbound traffic was routed off the 76th Street exit to Division. There was a report of at least one cow in the middle of the expressway, uninjured.

Semi tanks were punctured in the collision with trailer and a heavy amount of diesel was spilled onto the road.

A female in her 20s was reported injured, complaining of chest pains.

Crews were at the scene cleaning up the spill and awaiting tow trucks. It wasn’t known yet how long the bottleneck conditions will continue.

  1. I’m surprised more accidents aren’t happening in this construction zone, I’ve noticed they put a speed radar sign along side the road and I witnessed a car clocked at 81mph until they had to hit the brakes before ass ending the car in front of them. The speed limit is 60 mph in the construction zone almost every vehicle is doing at least 10 mph over the limit . Sheriff and State Police could have a field day writing up speeding violations in this area. Let’s give our construction workers a break slogan doesn’t seem to apply.
