The congregation of the Cross Fellowship Church soon will come back to rent its old site from Dorr Township Sundays and Wednesdays.
Formerly known as the Crosswinds Church, it was purchased by the township last year with designs on remodeling it into the new Dorr Township Hall because the old hall was too crowded. But since then the congregation has learned its lease on its new location will expire July 31.
So the estimated 125 Cross Fellowship Church members will come back to their old home east on 142nd Avenue. They will likely hold services in the auditorium and use the foyer and a rest room.
There hasn’t yet been agreement on how much to charge for rent, but the Township Board Thursday night indicated it is willing to negotiate between the church and a three-person committee made up of Trustees Pat Champion, John Tuinstra and Chandler Stanton.
In other business at Thursday night’s meeting, the board:
•Fielded comments from former local businessman Steve Dutkiewicz, who insisted the sidewalks shouldn’t entirely closed to golf carts because many use them out of necessity. He suggested the problems are caused by a few “careless kids with neglectful parents.”
•Voted 5-0-1 to approve the appointments of Dan Beute and Jim Schaendorf to three-year seats on the Zoning Board of Appeals. The abstention actually was Stanton voting “present” because he is already a member of that board.
• Adopted a resolution to sign a petition to consolidate the Bates and Sink Drains in Moline in an effort to improve drainage issues.
• Agreed to contribute $2,500 a year to the Allegan County Legal Assistance program, mostly to help with civil cases costs.
• Was told by Fire Chief Gary Fordham that the department received 35 calls for help in one night on May 15 when an EF-1 tornado visited Dorr and created much damage.
