The Martin girls’ basketball team used good defense again to score its second victory in as many outings this season.

The Clippers defeated homesteading Coloma 42-14 in a Southwest Athletic Conference battle.

Martin led 10-3, 20-10 and 32-10 at the period stops.

“Tonight was another great team win… We got off to a quick start pushing the ball and getting some steals with our pressure,” said coach Ben Schipper. “We fell into a slump in the second quarter against their zone. We got complacent and stopped attacking. We made some adjustments at half time for how to attack and they worked extremely well.

“We were much more pleased with our ball movement and aggressiveness in the half court during the second half. Our offensive rebounding was huge for us tonight giving us many second chance opportunities.”

Avery Jager’s 10 points led the Martin scoring parade and Makayla Goddard had nine.

The coach noted that seven of his eight players broke into the scoring column.

“I was happy with our post players aggressiveness around the basket and on the boards tonight.”
