DEQ agrees to extend Landing Marina permit application

The Landing Marina of Gun Lake has been granted an extension by the Department of Environmental Quality for a permit application to expand, despite opposition from neighbors and the Yankee Springs Township Board.

Owner Spoor applied to expand, from 24 to 54 boat slips, the marina, located at 11925 Marsh Road. His plan includes installation of three access docks, the largest one closest to the shoreline at 265 feet long and 6 feet wide. He also is suggesting a 22-foot-long concrete boat ramp.

The DEQ’s Water Resource Division, in a letter to Spoor, noted there were four requirements and he had completed three of them. The DEQ agreed to extend his permit application deadline from July 18 to Aug. 3.

Landing Marina’s proposal to expand has been met with local residents’ opposition and the Yankee Springs Township Board earlier this month voted 3-2 to recommend the DEQ turn down the application.
