Lucas Spoor’s proposed 58-boat slip marina at 11925 Marsh Road on Gun Lake is getting opposition from people who live in the area.

“Many in the community feel that the road is not fit for the additional traffic the marina will bring in,” said neighbor Brianna Fair. “Community members feel that the marina is too large for Gun Lake, and it will negatively impact the environment.”

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will have a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the Orangeville Township Hall to hear opinions on the proposal before making a decision on whether or not to permit such a marina

Spoor, property manager for the Landing On Gun Lake Gun Lake marina, wants to more than double the number of boats able to dock. He purchased a lot along Marsh Road in Orangeville Township, building a dock for about 20 boats and documents report he wants to increase that number to 54, which would make it one of the largest marinas on Gun Lake.

Some nearby residents maintain the proposed expansion will block access they’ve been using for a long time.

Fair has created a private Facebook page called Neighbors and Friends Against The Landing Marina. She is spreading the word about the DEQ’s public hearing.

Fair reported, “My Facebook group ‘Neighbors and Friends Against The Landing Marina,’ currently has 191 members. I have been uploading all relevant documents from the MiWaters database to the group for easy access for those interested.”
