Allegan County Sheriff’s Department Dive Rescue members were able to help rescue a dog from a sinking vehicle Saturday afternoon at Monterey Lake in Salem Township, near Dorr.

Deputies said the vehicle went about 30 to 40 yards and 10 feet deep into the lake. The dog was inside, but it was rescued by its owner before the vehicle sank.

Marine patrol personnel used sonar equipment to find the vehicle under the water., enabling the officers to pull the car out of the water.

Though it’s not clear why the car ended up in the water, there is no indication of any alcohol use in the incident.
