dollar-generalIt looks like a Dollar General store may be coming to Dorr along 142nd Avenue.

Dorr Township Planning Commission Chairman Robert Wagner told his colleagues that he had just received a request for site plan approval from Midwest Ventures LLC of Spring Lake to build a 9,132 square foot facility at 1763 142 Avenue, just west of the Booth-Hilaski Insurance Co. business.

When asked why Dollar General would be interested in coming to Dorr when there is a Family Dollar just down the same road to the east, Wagner said the philosophy is similar to that of Burger King locating very near a McDonald’s.

Commissioner Larry Dolegowski reported that attempts were made recently to install a Dollar General in Burnips across from the restaurant, but the project failed because of neighbors’ objections and there were problems with the size of the lot.

The site plan review request will be looked over by Planning Commissioners and it will be on the agenda for the Tuesday, Jan. 17, meeting.

Speaking about prospects for a store on the proposed site, Commission Vice Chairman Robert Traxler said, “That 9,000 square feet that will be paying taxes.”

Wagner chimed in, “Not to mention the sewer hookup and service fees.”

"When asked why Dollar General would be interested in coming to Dorr when there is a Dollar General just down the same road to the east" That should have been "Family Dollar is just down the road to the east." Family Dollar is in the High Mark mall with Ace Hardware, BC Pizza, Jungle Survival Drivers Training, and 5 Lakes Brewing.
