Danielle Casarez. and her fiancé, Chyanne Saucier, were right behind a crash involving multiple vehicles along US-131, just north of the Dorr exit Friday night.  Shortly after getting to the car, they noticed it was on fire and the man inside couldn’t get out.

Saucier said she grabbed the man inside the car underneath his armpits and went to pull him out. She added that she was running away from the car ablaze as fast as she could.

They heard a terrific boom just moments later and the car was engulfed in flames.

Casarez said she noticed the man’s hand was injured., so she grabbed a wrench, and some guaze her my daughter Lilly had some gauze in her backpack that was actually fresh, and so I put a wrench underneath his finger to stabilize that hand, just to get the bleeding to stop,” said Casarez.

Firefighters arrived minutes later to the engulfed car and quickly put it out. Chief Fordham and his department wanted to thank the two in person but couldn’t find them.

“I was literally running with this man in my arms probably about 120-150 feet until I fell,” she said.

Dorr Township firefighters arrived minutes later to the engulfed car and quickly put it out. Chief Gary Fordham and his department said they wanted to thank the two in person but couldn’t find them.

“Shortly after being dispatched, we were notified that one of the vehicles had caught fire,” Forham said. “We arrived on scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. We were able to knock the fire down quickly and began looking for other ways to assist on scene.

“The vehicle was, thankfully, unoccupied so our first thought was to locate the driver and assist WaylandArea Emergency Medical Services (WAEMS) in treating any injuries. The story we heard left us in awe.

“We were informed that the driver was pulled from the burning vehicle by two young women who were passing by at the time of the accident. Normally, that’s our job, and we like to do it quietly. When a member of the community does it for us, we’d like to acknowledge their act of heroism publicly. They saved a life and should be thanked properly.

Some kind of ceremony honoring the two women may be in the works.
