The gazebo that usedDorr Gazebo to be on the northeast corner of the intersection of 142nd Avenue and 18th Street in downtown Dorr may be moved to the Dorr Township Library.

The gazebo was removed after the Downtown Development Authority failed to reach an agreement with the owner of the property Mike Hagerty. Since then Hagerty has indicated he knows nothing about the gazebo’s removal.

It originally was reported that the quaint little structure was to be placed in the parking lot immediately west of the Then & Now Historical Library. However, there now is discussion about having it go instead to the Dorr Township Library.

Rachel Vote, a member of the Library Board, told the Dorr Township Board of the change of plans, noting that Then & Now is a big part of the library’s efforts to have an addition built to accommodate the historical service.

Library Board President Peg Otto said, “We’d love to have it where the flagpole is. It could be a real asset.”

Township Supervisor Jeff Miling agreed the library may be a better choice because as soon as Then & Now moves out of its current site, there is uncertainty about what will happen to the building and adjacent parking lot if it is sold.

The matter will be taken up next month at the next meeting of the DDA Board.
